On Thursday, 25 July the Club was fortunate to have highly respected and accomplished portrait photographer, John Slaytor, provide a presentation on portrait photography.
John used some images from a recent portrait shoot of some influential individuals to explain his techniques. John showed how he used his lighting setup to bring out their unique characteristics and how he varied the light to suit the individual. He also explained how he developed a rapport with each subject and why each portrait image varied according to the individual.
John spent some time explaining what he thought was a portrait and why some images of people weren’t, according to him, portraits but rather images capturing a record of a person and place rather than bringing out the essence of the person.
